To be eligible for the ITIL®4 Leader IT and Digital Strategy certification, candidates need to achieve the ITIL®4 Foundation certification or the ITIL®4 Managing Professional Transition module.

Accredited training as well as three years of IT managerial experience are mandatory for certification candidates.

Examination Format

  • 30 multiple choice questions
  • 60 minutes (+15 minutes for candidates with English as secondary language)
  • Passing criteria is 70%, i.e. 21 marks out of 30
  • Closed book examination

Upon achieving the ITIL®4 Leader IT and Digital Strategy certification, you can become an ITIL Strategic Leader after getting the ITIL®4 Strategist Direct, Plan and Improve credential. By obtaining the ITIL®4 Managing Professional designation as well, you can continue to ITIL Master.

Exam & Certification FAQs

Is the multiple-choice exam the only form of assessment in this qualification?

No. In addition to the exam, ITIL®4 Leader Digital and IT Strategy certification candidates need to attempt and pass four practical case study assignments. This exam may comprise of either three 60-minute assignments and a 90-minute group work assignment, or four individual written assignments of 60 minutes each.

To pass, candidates need to achieve 30 marks, or 75% or higher. For more details. Please refer to the module’s syllabus.

Is the multiple-choice exam an open book exam?

No, it is a closed book exam.

Is the multiple-choice exam available in multiple languages?

No. The exam is only available in English.

Will there be negative marking?

No, there is no negative marking for both the multiple-choice exam and case study assignments.

How much time do I have to take the certification exam?

The validity of the exam voucher code is 12 months starting from the issue date.

Will I obtain the ITIL®4 Strategic Leader designation with this certification?

No, you will not. You need to complete the other module in the Strategic Leader stream: ITIL®4 Strategist Direct, Plan and Improve. Once you have both certifications, you can apply for the Strategic Leader designation.
